Every Friday · free

The Friday brief.

One email a week, minutes after the CFTC publishes. It names every major market whose positioning has gone to an extreme, grouped by asset class. Nothing else.

Be on the list before Friday.

The count, before the detail

Two numbers open every email: how many markets are crowded long, and how many are crowded short. One glance tells you whether this was a quiet week or a stretched one.

Every major market at an extreme

Of the 51 majors, the brief lists the ones whose COT Index sits at 20 or below, or at 80 or above. That is the same threshold the app colours everywhere else.

Grouped by asset class

Currencies, metals, energy, rates, indices, grains, softs, livestock and crypto each get their own block, so you can read only the part you trade.

The level and the move

Each market shows its index on the 0 to 100 scale and how many points it moved since the previous report. A fresh extreme reads differently from one that has been building for months.

This is what the Friday brief looks like.

The email that went out for the week of Sep 15, 2026. Scroll to read it.

  • The opening

The week the report covers, and how many majors came out at an extreme.

  • The two counts

Crowded long and crowded short, before any market is named.

  • One block per asset class

Each market with its COT Index, the move since the last report, and a link to its page.

This one went to an account holder, so it opens with a name.

The Friday brief email: a greeting by first name, the week's summary, the crowded-long and crowded-short counts, then one block per asset class listing each market with its COT Index and weekly change.

It arrives with the report, not a day later.

Step 1

Friday, 3:30 pm ET

The CFTC publishes the new Commitments of Traders report.

Step 2

Minutes later

COT Screener has parsed it, scored every market and updated the site.

Step 3

Straight after

The brief goes out with that week's extremes.

The report itself covers positions as of the Tuesday before. That is the CFTC’s schedule, and the release calendar explains what moves it around holidays.

The next report prints Friday.

Subscribing costs nothing and needs no account. If you want the markets behind the brief as well, a free account opens this week’s COT Index on every major market.
