Who’s long. Who’s short. Every market, every week.

The largest traders cannot hide their positions. Every Friday, the CFTC publishes what hedge funds and commercial traders hold. COT Screener shows where they are positioned and when one side reaches an extreme.

The CFTC prints numbers. We add meaning.

Every Friday at 3:30 pm ET, the CFTC publishes how the largest traders are positioned in every futures market. The report arrives as a fixed-width text file with thousands of numbers and no context. COT Screener reads each release within minutes and calculates the COT Index for every market, so an extreme week is impossible to miss.

Built for the people who read positioning.

Futures & commodity traders

See how crowded a market is before you open a position, and whether that reading is unusual for the market or an ordinary week.

Forex traders

See where large speculators stand on the euro, the yen, the pound and the other major currencies. The report covers currency futures, which track the same exchange rates that spot and CFD traders follow.

Macro & position investors

Follow how positioning shifts across stock indices, rates, commodities and crypto, and spot the slow turns that a price chart does not show.

Systematic & quant traders

Compare a reading with every week the market has on record, and check whether similar extremes have mattered before.

An instrument, not a spreadsheet.

Everything the weekly report contains, arranged to be read in seconds.

The COT Index: one number per market

The COT Index places the net position of the large speculators on a scale from 0 to 100. Zero is the shortest they have been in the chosen period, and 100 the longest. Switch between six months, one year and three years to tell a fresh move from a multi-year extreme. How the index works.

The full trader breakdownPro

The Legacy report divides each market into speculators and commercials. The Disaggregated and TFF reports go further and separate managed money, swap dealers and leveraged funds, so you see which kind of trader stands behind a position.

Open a market, and read it in full.

Every market opens into the same page. These are its modules, drawn one to one from the app and each explained in a sentence. Together they hold everything the CFTC publishes about a market, and a few things it does not.

Positioning history

Four panels on one time axis: price, the net position of all three trader groups, the COT Index with its extreme bands and open interest. Drag the range or pick exact dates.

COT Index

The COT Index of the same net position over three lookbacks: six months, one year and three years. A fresh move and a multi-year extreme never look alike.

Concentration

The share of open interest held by the four and the eight largest traders, long and short. It shows whether a few traders carry a side or many.

Long positions and short positions

Reported contracts per trader group, each side on its own chart, over any range. New shorts and short covering no longer hide inside a net figure. On the page, each group’s share of its side appears below.

The CFTC report, for any week

The CFTC’s own table for the week: positions, changes, share of open interest and trader counts per group, for any report date since the market’s first. Below it, each group’s long and short side appears as one bar.

Recent history

Week by week: open interest and each group’s net position, with the change from the previous report. One click opens that week’s full table.

Every major market, from every angle.

A single chart shows one market at a time. These five views show every major market at once, each from its own angle. Together they turn one release into a picture of the whole week. Swipe to see all five. The heatmap is free. The other four views come with Pro.

01 · HeatmapFree

Which markets are stretched?

One axis from 0 to 100, every major market on it, grouped into a strip per asset class. The crowded corners and the quiet ones show before you read a single value.

02 · TrendPro

Which ones are turning?

One colored square per report and market, twelve reports side by side. You see which positions are building, which are holding and which have just flipped.

03 · Asset classesPro

Is a whole asset class leaning one way?

Each class becomes one card: its average COT Index, how its markets spread across the scale and which sit at an extreme. Metals and currencies can sit at opposite ends of the same week.

04 · Positioning mapPro

Crowding, or unwinding?

How extreme a position is on one axis, and what it did this week on the other. Crowding and unwinding land in different corners, so you can tell them apart at a glance.

05 · DivergencePro

Where do the two sides disagree?

Both sides of every market on one line. The wider the gap between large speculators and commercials, the higher it ranks, so the sharpest disagreements come first.

How the majors and the catalog fit together

The data is weekly. So is the routine.

The CFTC publishes once a week, on Friday afternoon, with positions as of the Tuesday before. COT Screener follows that rhythm: there is nothing to monitor between releases, and everything is ready minutes after a new report appears.

Frequently asked questions.

Where does the data come from?

Every figure comes from the Commitments of Traders reports that the CFTC publishes each week. COT Screener reads them directly from the agency’s public data feed, not through a data vendor. The COT Index and every other derived figure are calculated by COT Screener itself.

When does COT Screener update?

The CFTC publishes the report on Friday at 3:30 pm Eastern Time, with positions as of the preceding Tuesday. COT Screener updates within minutes of each release. When a US public holiday delays the report, the update follows on the new date. The schedule guide explains the timing in detail.

What does the free plan include?

This week’s COT Index for every major market, on the Markets page and on the heatmap. Three markets are open in full: Gold, WTI Crude Oil and Euro FX, each with its entire history back to 1986, every lookback period and the report table for any past week. The free plan requires no card and does not expire.

What does Pro add?

Pro opens the same full analysis for all 360+ markets the CFTC publishes. It also adds the Disaggregated and Traders in Financial Futures reports, the screener, the watchlist and alerts on any market. Of the five analysis views, the heatmap is free in its default setting, and Pro opens it in every setting along with Trend, Positioning map, Asset classes and Divergence.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. In the app, open Settings and click Manage subscription. You can cancel there in one step at any time, including during the free trial. Pro remains active until the end of the period you have paid for. After that, the account continues on the free plan, and your watchlist and alerts are kept in case you return.
